Jouko Korkeasaari

Jouko Korkeasaari

Born 1971 in Kajaani, Finland.
Lives and works in Jyväskylä, Finland

I tell short and strange stories through my paintings. Things that are not displayed and too obvious can be more essential than the things seen in the painting.

I get inspiration from past centuries, use sketches from actual sites, then modifying them into a different concept and ambience,  re-creating new contents into the elements that are portrayed.

Scandinavian heritage, architectural scene, house interiors in victorian and gustavian style play an important role in my artwork.

I study symbolism presented in art history, look for referencies from the literature and cinema and combine different and opposite elements. For the past years I´ve returned into classical painting and try to find new perspectives in combining modern elements into classical frame of reference.
